Dr. Sam Chendi Zhu is a microbiologist and bioinformatics specialist at the JC School of Public Health and Primary Care, Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). His research is dedicated to combating antimicrobial resistance using molecular and genomic techniques, with a strong emphasis on the One Health perspective.
During his PhD, Dr. Zhu focused on whole genome analysis of multidrug-resistant organisms, such as Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales (CPE) and Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), from both human and animal sources. His postdoctoral research expanded to investigate antifungal resistance mechanisms in Candida, the use of probiotics to restore the gut resistome, and microbiome studies. Currently, Dr. Zhu is involved in several One Health projects across different countries.
