Helena Dela is a microbiologist and Research scientist at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, University of Ghana, Legon. Additionally, she serves as a lead scientist at the US Naval Medical Research, EURAFCENT, Ghana detachment, bringing over 14 years of experience in researching antimicrobial resistance (AMR) of Neisseria gonorrhoeae and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in Ghana. Her passion for AMR and commitment to translating scientific discoveries from laboratory research to practical applications led her to investigate foodborne pathogens in human and environmental samples during her PhD studies, supported by Afrique One-ASIPRE Consortium.
Currently, Helena is a Postdoctoral Fellow of Afrique One-REACH (Research Excellence for African Challenges in Health) Consortium where she focuses on translating her AMR research findings into actionable measures. Her work aims to provide foundational data for future research and to enhance Ghana's healthcare system. She has also been actively involved in organizing community and public engagement campaigns on the growing problem of AMR.
