Dr. Jolene Giacinti is a veterinary epidemiologist and wildlife health specialist at Environment and Climate Change Canada. Her academic journey includes a Bachelor of Health Sciences from McMaster University, and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and PhD from the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph in Canada.
Dr. Giacinti’s work is focused on wildlife health and disease, applying a One Health lens to integrate animal, human, and environmental perspectives. With the emergence of HPAIV in Canada in the fall 2021, she has contributed epidemiological, phylogenetic, and clinical expertise to significantly enhance understanding of HPAIV dynamics in wild birds. Her work has informed population-level impact analyses, outbreak response, and decision-making on this significant One Health issue in Canada.
