Dr. Naigaga is a veterinarian with a background in wildlife and earned her doctorate in Ichthyology from Rhodes University, focusing on the use of bioindicators and biomarkers to assess aquatic environmental contamination. She currently works as the Program Manager for the Africa One Health University Network (AFROHUN); an international multidisciplinary network of 26 universities leading change in developing a One Health Workforce in East, Central and West Africa. Dr. Naigaga’s roles involve coordination and provision of strategic and policy guidance to AFROHUN. She oversees operationalization of the network’s strategic and business plans and promotion of strategic partnership engagement. She also provides leadership to program management and capacity development programs in the network. Dr. Naigaga brings on board her passion to transform Africa and nearly 20 years’ experience in managing and implementing multistakeholder programs. She is a Board Member for the Higher Education Resource Services East Africa (HERS-East Africa) and a member of the Steering Committee for the Africa One Health Network (AfOHNet). She also served as node coordinator for the Sub-Saharan Africa Water Resource Network (SSAWRN) under the Regional Initiative for Science and Education (RISE); Training and Research in Aquatic and Environmental Health in Africa (TRAHESA). Dr. Naigaga continues to offer technical expertise to support One Health integration into regional and continental frameworks including the East African Community One Health Strategic Plan; ECOWAS’s regional One Health Agenda steered by the West Africa Health Organization (WAHO); Africa CDC Framework for One Health Practice in National Public Health Institutes; and the Animal Health Strategy for Africa led by AU-IBAR. With her veterinary and wildlife background, she is working with colleagues from Makerere University and the African Chapter of the World Aquaculture Society to integrate One Health approaches in Aquatic Health Management.
