Prof Nicolette du Plessis, a registered Paediatric Infectious Diseases Specialist, is Associate Professor and Head of the Paediatric Infectious Diseases Division of the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Pretoria and Kalafong hospital. After completing her undergraduate training at the University of Stellenbosch, she trained as a paediatrician at the University of Pretoria and obtained her Masters of Medicine in Paediatrics, Fellowship of the College of Paediatricians as well as Diploma in Allergology. She obtained her Certificate in Paediatric Infectious Diseases after a 2 year fellowship. During this time she also obtained a Diploma in HIV Management and Travel Medicine certificate. Her interests and research in the field of Paediatric Infectious Diseases lead to her PhD that focused on early HIV diagnosis and treatment. Other interests include Immunology, Allergology, Travel medicine, Tuberculosis, immunization and vaccine-preventable diseases, outbreak investigation, and Antibiotic stewardship. Her recent research projects focus on paediatric Covid 19 and HIV. She is currently the president of FIDSSA and she serves on numerous advisory boards both locally and nationally. She has supervised 14 MMed Research studies and 2 MPhil students. She has published more than 24 peer reviewed articles; has an extensive Teaching and Learning portfolio; and has been an examiner, convenor and moderator for CMSA exams.
