Catherine Wangui Mbuthia is a Deputy Chief Technician in the Department of Biological and Physical Sciences at Karatina University, Kenya, and a PhD candidate in Molecular Microbiology at Sokoine University of Agriculture, Tanzania. She holds an MSc in Molecular Biology from Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium, and a BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Nairobi, Kenya. 

Previously, she served as a Research Assistant at the Centre for Microbiology Research within the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), working on Salmonellosis surveillance in Nairobi’s informal settlements. Her doctoral research centers on One Health eco-surveillance of antimicrobial-resistant Enterobacterales across the migratory Little Stint (Calidris minuta), livestock, and shared aquatic environments in the Kenyan Rift Valley. Her broader research interests encompass genomic AMR tracking, molecular epidemiology, and integrating molecular data into regional biosafety frameworks.
