Jolyn Oosters is a doctoral researcher at the Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases department of the Julius Center, UMC Utrecht, and the Veterinary Epidemiology department of Utrecht University. Her PhD research focuses on the transmission risk of avian influenza virus from wild birds to small-scale and backyard poultry holdings in the Netherlands, and from poultry to humans.

The interface of human and animal health is a key area of interest for her. She obtained her master’s degree in Infectious Diseases and One Health (Erasmus Mundus degree) in 2023; as part of which she completed an internship at the Structural Virology Unit of Institut Pasteur (Paris), focusing on yellow fever virus.

In 2024, she started her PhD research, focusing on the zoonotic transmission risks of avian influenza virus, as well as a postgraduate degree in Epidemiology at UMC Utrecht. Passionate about One Health, Jolyn is now co-chair of the Young Netherlands Center for One Health (Young NCOH) board. After obtaining her PhD and second master’s degree, she would like to continue doing research in the field of One Health, focusing on the transmission of arboviruses or avian influenza.
