Peter Sousa Hoejskov works as Technical Officer for Food Safety and Zoonotic Diseases at the WHO Regional Office for Europe in Copenhagen, Denmark. As part of the WHO Health Emergencies Programme, he provides technical assistance and strategic guidance to Member States to operationalize the One Health approach to manage foodborne and zoonotic diseases. He is a founding member of and serves as the WHO focal point to the Quadripartite Regional One Health Coordination Mechanism for Europe and Central Asia.
Prior to joining WHO Regional Office for Europe, Peter worked for 10 years as Technical Officer for Food Safety in the WHO Western Pacific region where he was based in the WHO Representative Office in the South Pacific, Fiji and in the WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific in Manila, Philippines. Prior to joining WHO, Peter worked for five years in the Food Safety Programme of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). During the time, he was based in the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok, Thailand and in the FAO Country Office in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Prior to joining the UN, Peter was project manager at The Institute for Food Studies & Agroindustrial Development (IFAU) in Denmark where he provided technical advice and consultancy services to food and agro-industrial companies, organizations and governments in the area of food quality and safety.
Peter holds a master’s degree in public health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a master’s Degree in human geography from University of Copenhagen with specialization in international agro-food systems and natural resource management. Peter also holds an AP degree in International Trade and Marketing from Lyngby Business Academy, Denmark.
