Farai Muchadeyi is the Head of the Animal Production and Health section of the Joint FAO/IAEA Centre for Nuclear Techniques in Food and Agriculture in the Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Vienna, Austria. She leads the Animal Production and Health section in the development and establishment of nuclear and related biotechnologies for detection, characterization and control of transboundary animal and zoonotic disease including building capacity in Member States through training and coordinating veterinary laboratory networks. These interventions play a critical role in enhancing national laboratories preparedness to detect and manage animal and zoonotic disease threats.
Farai has expertise in molecular and population genomics and has worked extensively in coordinating and managing the development and establishment of advanced omics technologies and applying them across the agricultural value chain in low-resource settings of Southern Africa. She has contributed immensely to promote the application of genomic technologies in smallholder and low input livestock farming systems and is involved in human capacity building through postgraduate student supervision and mentorship of young and upcoming scientist.
