Prof. Ricardo J. Soares Magalhaes LMV, MSc, PhD, DiplECVPH
Ricardo Soares Magalhães is a global health expert specializing in the spatial epidemiology of zoonotic diseases. He is Professor of Zoonotic Disease Epidemiology and Biosecurity at the University of Queensland, and Director of the Queensland Alliance of One Health Sciences at the University of Queensland. His research work focuses on developing geospatial models to understand determinants of disease distribution, with a strong focus on uncovering the role of climate hazards on Biosecurity vulnerabilities to zoonoses. Internationally, he serves as Technical Advisor to the WHO Southeast Asia Regional Office and the World Bank on the development of protocols for integrated disease surveillance and prioritisation of climate-sensitive high-impact zoonotic pathogens. He is also the co-Chair and Oceania representative on the Scientific Steering Committee of the global initiative on Preventing Zoonotic Disease Emergence (PREZODE).
